BONUS: The Good Fight: Defending the Gospel on the Internet (2 Timothy 4)
What would your last words be? If you could say one more thing about Jesus with your last breath, what would it be?
In this bonus episode, we look at 2 Timothy 4:6-18, Paul’s final words to Timothy and the last letter he wrote in Scripture. His deathbed message is to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith. And it tells us a lot about knowing God’s Word, standing firm in truth, and staying faithful to what God has called us to.
Some of what’s covered:
Why my answer to that last-breath question is “make sure you know God’s Word,” and where that started for me at 15.
What Paul means by the good fight, the race, and keeping the faith, and why the fight for the Gospel is the one that matters most.
The cost of defending the Word. Paul stood alone at his trial, and taking Scripture seriously can cost you relationships too.
Why Paul asked for the parchments. Even in his final days, he didn’t want to be without the Word.
Two ways to defend the Word this week:
1. Take everything you hear back to the Word.
2. Speak the truth in love.
And the reminder Paul ends with: God has been keeping track, nothing you’ve walked through is wasted, and he will strengthen you, rescue you, and bring you home.
